Players Coalition, National and Local Organizations to Host Virtual Town Hall
With upcoming prosecutorial elections, discussion will highlight the power of local prosecutors and empower voters to improve their legal landscapes
Tomorrow, July 22 at 6 p.m. ET, Players Coalition Charitable Foundation, Advancement Project National Office, and local organizations will host “Power of Prosecutors: Know Before You Vote,” a virtual town hall to discuss the power of local prosecutors and to empower voters to fight mass incarceration by holding prosecutors accountable by heading to the polls.
Michigan’s two most populated counties, Oakland and Wayne, are home to hotly contested prosecutors races. Its winners will shape the local criminal justice landscape for the next four years.
“When people ask, ‘What can I do to help?’ the biggest thing they can do is vote,” said Duron Harmon, Players Coalition member and safety for the Detroit Lions who will participate during the town hall alongside teammates Christian Jones, Trey Flowers, and Jalen Reeves-Maybin. “Oakland and Wayne Counties are having primaries for county prosecutors, and we want to help bring awareness in Detroit on how critical the role of a prosecutor is in our legal landscape. This is an important election, and I am looking forward to our conversation on the power of a prosecutor and why it’s important to vote.”
